A Beautiful Drive and an Interesting Old House

Several weeks ago David and I had the opportunity to attend and estate sale together. This was a treat for me since he is usually at work when estate sales are held and doesn't get to assist check out the cool things offered for sale. It was a beautiful drive to Clinton, TN which is about a forty minute drive. The views surrounding the house were lovely and the house itself was a real treat! It was built in 1860 (pre-civil war, folks!) and how magnificent it must have been in it's day. I love old houses and can only imagine the things it has seen and the stories it could tell. As with most buildings of it's age, time and neglect has stripped away most of the grandeur and left it in much need of restoration. Buying and renovating an old farm house like that has always been a dream of mine but home ownership experience has given me many reasons to re-think that idea! Stories for another time....
Anyway, we acquired our line-up numbers and admired the outer architectural detailing while patiently waiting for the doors to open.
Estate sales are always so exciting! When the doors open, it is anyones game and you have to be quick to get the best stuff. I found a sizable pile of clothing ranging from the 40's to the 80's that I couldn't wait to get home and sort through. The has was packed with all kinds of interesting things but I only decided on a small vintage glass bottle to accompany the clothing. Being able to tour the main floor of the house was a real pleasure and I am always fascinated by the architectural detailing builders used to put into houses. You just don't get that in modern structures. I thoroughly enjoyed this sale and I can't wait for the next one!
This is my first attempt at a "pile" picture. I will definitely do something different next time, most likely involving my clothing rack so that you can get a better idea of what I found!
